Hospital Sant Pau

The hospital architecture by Domènech i Montaner.

An Art Nouveau Hospital

The Hospital de Sant Pau is the successor of the Hospital de la Santa Creu in the Raval neighborhood. Designed during a period of major urban transformations, the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner drew inspiration from the most modern hospitals in Europe to create a facility that embraced new hygienic ideas. He envisioned different pavilions for patients surrounded by gardens and connected by tunnels. Of the initially planned 48 pavilions, only 26 were constructed, making this complex the largest of its kind in the modernist style.
